Ging Freecss is an infamous, well-known, or rather well-hated character from the Hunter x Hunter franchise.
Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese Manga franchise illustrated and written by him.
Since March 1998, it has been serialized in the revered Shueisha’s Shonen Manga magazine “Weekly Shonen Jump,” although this Manga has regularly taken on prolonged hiatuses since 2006. As of October 2018, its chapters had been accumulated in 36 tankbon volumes list.
The plot revolves around a young boy named Gon Freecss, who discovers that his father, who abandoned him when he was young, is a world-renowned Hunter,
A hunter is a licensed professional who specializes in mythical pursuits; adventures such as tracking down rare or previously unknown animal species, artifact hunting, surveying uncharted enclaves, or chasing down lawless individuals are all common for Hunters.
Gon sets out on a journey to become a Hunter, eventually locating his father. Gon meets other Hunters and encounters the supernatural along the way.

Who is Ging Freecss?
Ging Freecss, as you can probably guess by the last name, is Gon Freecss’, the protagonist of Hunter x Hunter, biological father.
Additionally, he’s an impressive Double-Star Hunter (although he’s eligible for a Triple-Star License) and a former Zodiac known as Boar.
Mito (Gon’s aunt and a motherly figure) and Ging are cousins. Ging left Whale Island shortly before his 12th birthday to take on the 267th Hunter Exam.
Mito’s family tragically died on vacation shortly after his departure, and Ging’s dad was lost at sea. The 267th Hunter Exam was passed by him alone. Ging then returned to Whale Island with a two-year-old Gon 10 years later.
He decided to leave Gon with his grandparents for a while, informing her that both he and Gon’s mother had divorced.
Mito, on the other hand, believed he was unfit to care for Gon and obtained custody. Ging dedicated himself to the exhumation and preservation of archaeological ruins after becoming a licensed Hunter.
He used his wealth to sustain and restore ruins so that they could be seen by everyone. His accomplishments are now regarded as an international model for archaeological management.
Ging has become extremely wealthy and powerful, comparable to that of a country’s president. He has remained a mysterious figure.
Ging is also the primary developer of the Nen-based game Greed Island. Director Netero once told Biscuit that Ging is among the world’s top 5 Nen users, which makes him one of the strongest humans in the Hunter x Hunter universe.
Following Netero’s death, it’s disclosed that Ging is a member of 12 Hunters (dubbed the Zodiacs) who were hand-picked by the former Chairman to oversee the election of a new Chairman in case of Netero’s death.
The Zodiacs were all given code names based on the Chinese zodiac signs, with Ging becoming regarded as the “Boar.“

The Personality of Ging Freecss
Ging has a quiet and stubborn nature, to the point where he only wants Gon to see him alone, and believes that bringing a friend would be cowardly of Gon, prompting one of his pals to wonder if he is terrified of crowds.
Based on his activities during the New Hunter Chairman Election to guarantee Netero’s wishes were carried out, he appears to have high regard for the late Chairman. Despite this negative trait, he can be a really great guy overall.
Why is Ging the Worst?
Is Ging a terrible father? Or does he just not know how to be a parent and is just incapable? That is a question many Hunter x Hunter fans argue about.
So let’s talk about his positives and negatives.
Redeeming Qualities
He has a lot of faith in Gon. He devised a game to aid Gon’s training.
Ging knew Gon would survive, but how? Unless he has some kind of specialist hatsu that allows him to see into the future, or he just seems to have crazy intuitions like Kakashi, his actions show a lot of faith in Gon. Ging indirectly consoled Gon by telling him that Kite’s death was not his fault.
A fact many Ging haters disregards is that he had spent his entire adolescence without any parental figures, so in a way, he didn’t know how to be a “parent” on his child.
He probably doesn’t understand how an individual should grow and mature and assumes Mito and Grandma would be enough companions for Gon until he develops into a hunter like him.
We don’t understand precisely how Ging handled Gon while he was a baby, but he appeared to be well-cared for. When Ging took Gon to Greed Island, Gon was adequately wrapped and appeared healthy. If Ging didn’t honestly care, he would not have bothered carrying Gon and bringing him to the island.
Mito was also the one who informed Gon that his father had abandoned him, so we don’t know if Mito told Gon the exact uncensored truth or whether she was simply attempting to dissuade Gon from becoming a hunter. Mito may have taken Gon from Ging in court because she was aware of Ging’s dangerous job.
His Short Comings
Ging’s actions, on the other hand, are still not parent-like.
He was attempting to make his son climb a huge tree (World Tree), putting his life in danger, just to talk to him when he could have talked to him in a safer environment. Yet he also gave Gon his phone number, and Gon called him later, showing Gon that he isn’t abandoning him altogether this time.
Ging also stated that if Gon had regained his Nen, he would have followed him to the Dark Continent, implying that Ging had enabled him to accompany him (although this part was relatively vague, he could have also meant that Gon could go to the Dark Continent, but instead of accompanying him, Gon would have to hunt for Ging again.)
Is Ging a Villain?
For many, Ging Freecss already serves as a villain, if not an antihero.
He habitually tops the list of the worst Anime dads, and his involvement around with other Hunters is enough to give the impression that he’s not the most amenable guy at a party.
Presumably, it’s due to his audacity. Perhaps it’s expected of his willingness to go to any length to complete the task.
Whatever the case may be, the Hunter Association appears to be relieved that he never turned his thoughts against the world. If he does, he has all the makings of a classic endgame villain.
However, despite his very despicable nature and off-putting personality, Ging is, in fact, a good guy; well, he’s irritating, but at least he isn’t actively trying to hurt or kill innocent people, so that puts him out of the list of worst villains in Anime.
What is Ging Freecss’s most serious shortcoming as a father?
Ging, the finest father, is urging his son to lead a risky lifestyle while putting Gon’s life in jeopardy.
Gon left his homeland of Whale Island at the age of twelve to take the hunter exam, intending to find Ging and finally talk to him, seeing his father for the first time he could recall. Despite being nurtured by a caring Aunt and Great-Grandmother, Gon spent much of his life chasing after Ging with little success.
