Sasuke VS. Kurapika: Who Wears Revenge Better?

Sasuke Uchiha is the last remaining member of the Uchiha clan and the main protagonist and antagonist of the Naruto franchise, after his brother, Itachi Uchiha murdered the entire clan in a surprise attack. Thus leaving Sasuke, who was 7 at the time all alone, thus began Sasukes unbridled bloodthirst and desire for revenge on his brother for killing his clan, including their father and mother.

Kurapika, a major side character and the current protagonist of the Hunter x Hunter franchise, is the last remaining member of the Kurta clan, which was an endangered clan in the Lukso Province.

This clan was known for its members possessing scarlet eyes, which gave them a boost in physical and Nen capabilities, and as such, they were hunted by the Phantom Troupe, for their alluring eyes. With his clan and home destroyed by the Phantom Troupe. he had nothing left but the unyielding desire for the downfall of the Phantom Troupe (which was a very prominent and dangerous criminal organization).

Both are the central protagonists of equally very popular Anime and Manga franchises, and both share very similar powers, goals, and backstory, so which one has a better more gory desire for revenge, let’s find out.

Who is better: Sasuke or Kurapika?

In my opinion, Kurapika is better.

Sasuke has a very calm personality and his character has been developed well but he’s a little selfish and doesn’t like talking to anyone or being friends with anyone. As a kid, he was very jolly and shared a very strong bond with his brother, Itachi but after his brother attacked his clan, he changed and got a cold personality.

Kurapika, on the other hand, is more stable, consistent, and intelligent and can relate to others. He doesn’t open up to people and can be judgemental at times.

Sasuke

According to Hashirama Senju, Sasuke strongly resembles Izuna Uchiha: he has black eyes and black hair with blue tinted spikes.

Since he was a child, Sasuke’s long hair has draped over his face as bangs; as he ages, he lets it grow longer and obscure more of his face.

After obtaining his Rinnegan, Sasuke grew out his hair to conceal his left eye and the left part of his face. He’s regarded as handsome by the majority of girls his age.

As for Sasuke’s wardrobe, it has changed multiple times throughout the series as Sasuke grows older, it got more angsty and emo with every amendment. So let’s have a look why don’t we?

Sasuke’s outfit has changed over the years, but the Uchiha clan emblem is generally on the back of his shirt collar.

Throughout Part I, he wears a navy blue shirt with a high neckline, white shorts, and arm warmers. During the Chunin exams’ finale, he rocks a slack, one-piece variant of this customary clothing with little belts on his left arm and legs.

He also wears a cyan forehead protector with both attire, but after being wounded by Itachi, he abandons it.

Sasuke wears dark blue pants, a blue fabric from his belly to his legs, and a purple rope belt in Part II, like Orochimaru and his troops.

He wears a white long-sleeved shirt with the chest open and black arm protectors. Before and during his encounter with Itachi, he wears a sleeveless dark grey shirt and bandages on his wrists.

After Itachi’s death, he wears a zipped, elevated, short-sleeved shirt and blue wrist covers. He sports a hooded cloak over his clothes at different times, mainly an unadorned black one while pursuing Itachi with Hebi, and for a brief time, the signature Akatsuki cloak with a hood instead of the customary high collar.

Sasuke loses his left arm towards the end of the 4th war, but unlike Naruto, he doesn’t get a prosthetic built from Hashirama Senju’s cells. He now rocks a black high-collared shirt, a midriff-exposing flak jacket, and grey slacks, in Naruto The Last, this outfit is worn for the shortest period.

He wears a torn brown poncho over most of this. During this appearance, he wears ankle bandages and a blue sash. In Sasuke Shinden: Book of Sunrise, he now rocks an all-black attire i.e black cloak over a black shirt, pants, belt, and knee-high bandages.

As an adult, Sasuke wears a black cloak with violet lining, a grey long-sleeved shirt, and a periwinkle vest. His other hand is covered by a dark grey fingerless glove.

His forehead protector hangs from his left hip.

Sasuke becomes taller as an adult, surpassing Naruto.

Kurapika

Unlike Sasuke, Kurapika only has 3 changes in his wardrobe and that’s because of two different Anime adaptations.

Kurapika has medium-length blonde hair and brown eyes, which are blue in the 1999 version and gray or dark gray in the 2011 adaption.

When he’s feeling great emotion, his eyes flame a gorgeous and desirable scarlet. In his initial debut in the series, he sports a blue tabard with an orange (or red in the 2011 adaptation) hem, along with a white full-body training outfit.

Throughout the Yorknew City arc, he changes his tabard and training uniform. His footwear consists of Chinese-style winkle-picker flats. From the Election arc, he wears a black suit, black shoes, and a black necktie in his subsequent appearance.

Kurapika additionally wears a single ruby-studded drop earring in his left ear. After mastering Nen, he begins wearing black contact lenses to conceal his highly sought-after scarlet eyes.

So in terms of drip, I think Kurapika wins this one, however, if the objective is to intimidate, then Sasuke is the clear winner.

Who Wants Revenge More?

This is a hard one to pick, seeing as both come from extremely similar circumstances, they both have equal amounts of hatred and desire for revenge.

But in terms of blood-lust, I’d have to give this to Sasuke simply for the fact that, at one point he had nothing but revenge in his life.

Sasuke, to achieve his goal, was ready to do anything and everything, even going as far as forsaking his village, friends, and community to asking for help from Orochimaru to enact his revenge, there’s no path he wasn’t afraid to go down, resulting in him becoming a world-class criminal that hosted a top spot in the Bingo Book. So his will and desire aren’t something to be challenged.

Kurapika, on the other hand, had an equal desire to kill the Phantom Troupe, however, unlike Sasuke, he didn’t lose his sense of self, he put his friend’s life on priority over killing the Phantom Troupe leader, which shows that he isn’t ready to lose it all just for the sake of revenge.

However, Kurapika did use the pledge and restriction Nen technique to turn the tables of the Phantom Troupe, which showed his resolve, A technique that is capable of backfiring severely when not used properly.

Is Kurapika inspired from Sasuke?

No, it’s quite the opposite. Instead, Sasuke is inspired by Kurapika.

it’s not hard to see the similarity, both are the last remaining members of their respective clans, both have a strong desire for revenge, both have red eyes that give them supernatural powers, and both go down a dark path. It’s like they are the same individual but from different Anime.

Kishimoto said it himself he was inspired by Togashi’s work cause he’s his favorite Manga author.

Even though they are eerily similar, they have completely different personalities, different combat and power skills, different paths of life, and different moral values.

So it’s not a blatant rip-off as some may claim.

What makes HXH so special?

First and foremost, there is a mix of how familiar Japanese clichés are exploited and avoided.

Characters – Many of the character types we see reoccurring in anime are recurrent for a reason: Japanese people adore them.

The Nen system– This anime also contains a unique, complicated, and well-thought-out power system known as Nen. After understanding the fundamental four applications of Nen.

  1. Ten
  2. Zetsu
  3. Ren
  4. Hatsu

In a death match, could Kurapika defeat Sasuke?

While end-of-series Naruto is far more formidable in terms of raw destructive force than HxH, they aren’t particularly tough to the point where a nen-user can’t hurt them.

This is dependent on Kurapika’s level of preparation. Unlike in Naruto, where battles are mostly brawn vs. brawn with a few asspulls thrown in for good measure, HxH fights are more about strategy and completing certain conditions for success (along with the occasional ass pull).

This is how Gon and Killua were able to live against the Genei Ryodan, who were significantly stronger than them.
