Cuddling Anime Characters

Cuddling is viewed as an intimate activity that’s done with a significant other, although cuddling is not necessarily synonymous with being a relationship-exclusive activity it’s viewed as one in many cultures around the world including Japan.

Cuddling, especially with someone you like, gives you a sense of closeness and relaxed intimacy that’s difficult to find in other activities. If you feel comfortable with the other person, it kind of just lets you relax and not have to do much physically.

This means that if a person who is usually very reserved or aloof has let their guard down enough to relax with someone else, it truly shows how much they trust the other person.

All right, now let’s take a look at some very cute A1nime cuddling moments. My favorite Animes with cuddling scenes are Horimiya and Kaguya-sama: Love is war.

Before starting I would like to point out that romance falls into the Shonen, Josei, and Seinen demographic of manga and anime, here’s a table explaining the various demographics:

GenreSetting
ShōnenShōnen manga is primarily marketed toward male teen readership. The themes in shonen manga include sub-genre like martial arts, mecha, science
fiction, sports, horror, or mythological creatures.
SeinenSeinen manga is aimed to attract young adult men. Seinen manga mainly focuses on action, politics, science fiction, fantasy, relationships, sports, or comedy.
JoseiJosei manga, also known as ladies’ comics, the most popular themes of josei mangas are typically drama, romance, or pornography.
IsekaiIsekai is a fantasy-based genre where the mc is teleported to, reborn, or trapped in a fantasy or parallel unfamiliar universe. Some isekai even have beings from other worlds visiting Earth. Isekai uses world-building to develop an unfamiliar and adventurous setting.

What is a cuddle?

A cuddle is an act of physically embracing someone by wrapping one’s arms around him.

It might be between two family members who are or are not in a romantic connection. It could be in a comfortable position or not.

Cuddles keep you warm in cold weather. It has numerous health benefits such as decreasing anxiety, enhancing sleep quality and quantity, treating chronic physical pain, and so on.

Who are some anime characters you’d like to embrace or cuddle?

I have a long list, but here are a few that I’d like to highlight.

  • Natsu Dragneel
  • Shiroe (Kei Shirogane)
  • Kakashi Hatake
  • Naruto Uzumaki
  • Monkey D. Luffy
  • Roronoa Zoro
  • Tanjiro Kamado
  • Karma Akabane

What Animes have a cuddle scene?

Almost every romance and slice-of-life Anime is bound to have a cuddling scene.

Well, that shouldn’t be very surprising given Japanese society’s view on cuddling being an intimate activity reserved only for a love interest, so romance Anime that shows the progression of love between the MC and his love interest usually includes a cuddling scene or two, as a way to show their intimacy and love progression.

If I were to name some of the romantic Anime that feature such scenes, I’d give these 2:

Horimiya

Horimiya is probably one of the most clichés yet most heart-warming Anime that I have watched.

It tells the tale of a quiet, reserved, and shy main character Miyamura’s progression with a girl whos the total polar opposite of him, Hori san.

On the surface, the concept of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura getting along might seem unlikely. After all, Hori combines beauty and intelligence, whereas Miyamura appears shy and distant from his classmates.

However, an encounter dictated by fate reveals their actual personalities to one another. Hori is popular at school, but due to housework, she has little time to socialize with her friends.

Miyamura, in contrast, lives in plain sight of his peers, his body adorned in covert tattoos and piercings that give the impression that he is a good-natured miscreant.

They spend their time together at Hori’s house and bond over time despite their contrasting personalities. As they both emerge from their shells, they share a side of themselves concealed from the outside world, and slowly yet surely fall head over heels over one another.

A normal high school romance has all the elements in Horimiya.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

This is yet another heartwarming and funny Anime, the premise goes like this at the renowned Shuchiin Academy, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the student body’s top representatives.

Miyuki is the student council president and is regarded as the best student in the country by both peers and mentors. Along with him, vice president Kaguya—the eldest daughter of the rich Shinomiya family—performs admirably in every profession imaginable. They’re regarded as the ideal couple by the entire student body.

Even though both have affection for the other, neither is willing to admit it. The first to admit defeat will be looked down upon and regarded as inferior. With their honor and pride on the line, Miyuki and Kaguya are equally determined to emerge triumphant on the battleground of romance!

Despite their fondness for one another, neither is willing to express it.

Anime characters acting like a Couple

Many shounen romance Animes also have the premise of the main characters acting like a couple before actually becoming one.

The best fit for this would once again be Horimiya, where Hori decides to act like Miyamura’s girlfriend as a response to the growing rumors about them dating (which was not true at the time).

Hori being the outgoing and confident girl she is decides to combat the rumors by actually acting like Miyamura’s love interest, the series, later on, goes on to show them developing feelings for one another.

Spy x Family

Besides Horimiya, Spy X Family is another Anime that has its complete hypnosis around acting like a couple.

Loid, Anya, and Yor Forger
The plot centers on a spy who must create a family in order to complete a mission.

Corrupt politicians, frenzied nationalists, and other warmongering forces constantly jeopardize the thin veneer of peace between neighboring countries Ostania and Westalis.

Regardless of their intentions, renowned espionage agent and master of disguise Twilight completes risky missions one after the other in the hope that no kid will have to witness the atrocities of war.

Twilight assumes the alias Loid Forger, an esteemed psychiatrist, in the thriving Ostanian city of Berlin. His genuine aim, however, is to collect intelligence on political figure Donovan Desmond, who only appears in public on rare occasions at his boys’ school, the elite Eden Academy.

Loid enacts his master plan by enlisting the services of unmarried city hall clerk Yor Briar as his wife and adopts the observant six-year-old girl Anya as his daughter. He’ll enroll Anya in Eden Academy, where he expects she’ll succeed and allow him to see Donovan without raising suspicions.

Alas for Loid, even a man of his abilities struggles to portray the role of a loving father and spouse. And, just as Loid is keeping his true identity hidden. Yor, a subterranean assassin known as Thorn Princess, and Anya, an esper who can hear people’s thoughts, have no plans to reveal their own.

Even though this picture-perfect family is built on lies, the Forgers gradually realize that their love for one another is more important than anything else.

The MC, Loid Forger has to act as Yor Forgers’ husband to get his adopted daughter into school for a mission while Yor has to act like a wife to avoid suspicions about her being a spy. This couldn’t get more ridiculous.

Inu X Boku SS

The fact that Inu x Boku SS incorporates both shōjo and shōnen aspects is a plus.

Another example is Inu x Boku SS, where the MC Ririchiyo Shirakiin isn’t exceptionally skilled at communicating with people, allowing her caustic tongue to scare them away. She decides to live alone in Maison de Ayakashi, a sanctuary for Atavist, half-human, half-youkai, to not annoy anyone.

There, she befriends Soushi Miketsukami, a secret service agent who is completely loyal to her and would sooner die than fail to serve her. All through the series, the pair become close to the point where they fall in love.

Who is the best Anime Couple?

There’re many to go through and each of them is heart-warming and special in its way, however, if I had to pick here’re my top two on the list.

Naruto and Hinata

Hinata was the only person who saw his potential and the good in Naruto.

Another relationship we could see coming from a mile away, but it took two series and a movie for them to act on it finally.

Hinata had pined for Naruto for ages but was too meek and soft-spoken to do anything. Naruto was too intent on being the best to notice, leaving many shippers disappointed.

When it eventually happens, it feels like a weight has been lifted since these two were supposed to be together, as the history they have provides for a storybook finale that never truly ends, as we watch their romance flourishes in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Kaguya and Shirogane

As aforementioned both love birds can’t stop thinking about one another yet, they refuse to accept and admit their feelings for one another.

Kaguya and Shirogane
Their character shifts to better fit the other person

Although they show their competitiveness and pride to one another, trying to make the other party confess, there’s no doubt that they both deeply care for one another.

It’s surprising how much both of their personality changes just to suit one another better, like Kaguya who goes from a cold, aloof, and sharp-mouthed individual to a caring, obsessed and kind person whereas Shirogane goes from a reserved, smart and career-oriented gentleman to a man who would move mountains to make Kaguya happy.
