Tokyo Revengers: Ranked By Strength

Tokyo Revengers, one of 2021’s popular Anime has been praised for many reasons, however, the biggest aspect of its success is its ability to explore the masculinity culture which was presented in the early 2000s in Japan.

The writer Ken Wakui, after getting fired from his first-ever job during his high school years, spent his hours in and out of street gangs, so it’s only natural and fair that this familiarity with dark aesthetics would manifest in Tokyo Revengers.

Given that Wakui spent almost half of his youth with Japanese street gangs, it shouldn’t be surprising that Tokyo Revengers emphasizes physical violence. Despite the good intentions of Tokyo Manji Gang members, they would often engage in rather serious combat.

Now, when you mention Tokyo Manji Gang, the name that comes to mind is Sano Manjiro, commonly known as Mikey, who is the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang. While he may not be the tallest guy, he certainly is the strongest, in fact, the name “Mikey” is enough to send chills to the spines of his enemies.

Moreover, if we talk about the main character and his strength, it’s clear that Takemichi Hanagaki isn’t physically strong or has dominance as Mikey does, however, he is considered the most resilient guy in the Tokyo Revengers.

While no one has ever beaten Mikey in a fight, Takemichi never gave up, even though he would be crying. What you’re looking at is two kinds of strengths, physical and mental. For instance, while Mikey has mastered that “Nuclear Kick“, Takemichi has his determination to fight and protect his people.

If you want to know about the strengths of other characters, I suggest you keep on reading.

What exactly is Tokyo Revengers?

Tokyo Revengers is a Japanese manga series written and sketched by Ken Wakui. It was published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shnen Magazine from March 2017 to November 2022, with chapters compiled in 31 tankbon volumes.

Liden Productions made an anime television series adaption that ran from April to September 2021. In January 2023, the second season premiered. In July 2021, a live-action film adaption was released in Japan, with a sequel prepared for 2023.

The story revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki’s life has hit rock bottom. Just when he thought things couldn’t get any worse, he learns that his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, was murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang: a gang of nasty criminals who have been disrupting society’s stability for quite some time.

Takemichi finds himself traveling through time, ending himself 12 years ago, when he was still in a relationship with Hinata, wondering where it all went wrong. Believing he has a chance to save Hinata, Takemichi decides to infiltrate the Tokyo Manji Gang and rise through the ranks in order to change history and spare Hinata from her tragic fate.

Is Tokyo Revengers worth the watch?

The animation technique was clean and pretty to look at, while the characters remained charming.

About the design of the characters and their backstory. The main character was driven and had multiple goals in mind. He’s flawed and a great man all around, which keeps you rooting for him throughout the anime.

Even the supporting characters were engaging and kept you interested in what happened to them. The development of their relationships as the series progressed was excellent, and I thought it to be a strong selling feature of this anime.

The action in Tokyo Revengers was likewise excellent. There was enough to keep it intriguing, but not so much that it ruined the entire concept.

Pah-Chin’s Endurance Can Undergo Fights That Are Almost Impossible To Win

Pah is one of the founding members and the Captain of the Third Division of Tokyo Manji Gang. Pah is known for his durability, which he demonstrated by withstanding the severe punishment of his fight against the Leader of Moebius named Nobutaka Osanai.

While Tokyo Revengers fans don’t really see much of his abilities, his relationship with the Tokyo Manji Gang is enough to tell that he can be useful in the right situations.

The fight is considered one of the worst one-sided beatings in Tokyo Revengers and the fact that even after knowing that he was up against a well-established boxer, who was also three years older than him, the primary takeaway from this horrifying encounter was the surviving abilities of Pah-chin.

Chifuyu Matsuno Is The Strongest Vice-Captain Of Tokyo Manji Gang

Chifuyu Matsuno is the Vice Captain of the First Division of the Toman. In my opinion, Chifuyu may be the strangest character, mentally and maybe physically. For instance, Chifuya helps Baji in joining Vallaha by letting himself get beaten up so that Baji can prove his loyalty, which shows that he will do anything for people he cares about and admires.

While Chifuyu may not be like Pah-Chin, but you should never doubt his ability to hold a fight, as it was proved by his holding against several upperclassmen while he was still in middle class, this is enough to show that Chifuya is without a doubt a captain-level fighter.

Nahoya Kawata Is The Outsider Who Became A Member Of Toman

Nahoya Kawata is considered one of the strongest fighters in Toman, he is the Captain of the Fourth Division of Tokyo Manji Gang. While, Season 1 of Tokyo Revengers doesn’t give Nahoya any chance to get into a one-on-one fight — but, Nahoya certainly gets that chance to shine later.

Nahoya is the first known outsider who was added to the ranks of the Toman.

The fact that the original members of the Tokyo Manji Gang thought that he isn’t only strong enough to join the ranks, but also deserving enough to have an entirely new division for him to serve as the Captain, calls attention to his strength.

Nabutaka Osanai’s Boxing Skills Led Him To The Top Of The Moebius

Not even Osanai can give a challenging fight to Mikey.

Almost all the characters in Tokyo Revengers try to show their ability to dish out a beating, however, the only one who actually has a formal background in martial arts is the leader of the gang known as Moebius.

Nabutaka Osanai is the Leader and someone who may possibly be the strongest character in Tokyo Revengers. He’s a former boxer, who can be nimble on his feet, but is heavy in his hands.

Kazutora Hanemiya’s Time In Juvie Turned Him Into A Grave Threat

There isn’t any character in Tokyo Revengers who has such a tragic profile as the one and only guilt-ridden Kazutora Hanemiya. After he killed Mikey’s older brother, Shinichiro he was sent to a juvenile detention center, where he had all the time in the world to become the unrecognizable Kazutora.

Kazutora can certainly fight with the strongest characters of Tokyo Revengers, however the only thing that sets him apart is his willingness to go to extreme lengths to cause damage and harm that he wants.

The time he spent in the Juvenile detention center taught him many harsh tactics, for instance using weapons in fights, especially with Mikey and Baji.

Takashi Mitsuya Can Be Quite Dangerous In A Fight

Takashi Mitsuya is the Captain of the Second Division of the Tokyo Manji Gang, he’s considered to retain the most balanced combination of level-headedness and extremely devastating combat ability in Tokyo Revengers.

The ability to be rational and dangerous at the same time in a fight is certainly an ability that only Takashi can have.

In addition, while Takashi hasn’t got as many chances as other characters like Mikey and Draken to show his abilities, however, it’s evident that his talents aren’t far behind theirs.

Keisuke Baji Is The Most Significant Part Of The Creation Of Toman

Even though the first season of Tokyo Revengers introduced many characters, no one could even come close to getting such an extremely nuanced character arc than Keisuke Baji, who is the former Captain of the First Division of Tokyo Manji Gang.

Baji is the prime figure in the origination of the Tokyo Manji Gang, he didn’t only live up to the highest position, but he also showed that he deserves to be there. Keisuke Baki is definitely the strongest fighter in all of the Tokyo Revengers.

Shuji Hanma Is Considered Valhalla’s Strongest Fighter

Shuji Hanma with golden and black hair
Hanma is the only character who could withstand Mikey’s “Nuclear Kick”.

Shuji Hanma, the secondary antagonist, is a former member of the Toman and is the right-hand of Tetta Kisaki, aiding and assisting him throughout all his plans.

While he was unable to defeat Mikey and Draken in their many extended fights, it was clear that he retains a mind-boggling durability and toughness.

In addition, Hanma may have never defeated Mikey, but he blocked the famous and deleterious “nuclear kicks” of Mikey without any sweat.

Draken Stands For The Ideals Of Tokyo Manji Gang

The Tokyo Manji Gang would never have a better representative than Ken Ryuguji, also known as Draken. Draken is the Vice-Leader of Toman, he has dominated many battlefields and defeated almost every opponent that has ever come before him in combat.

Moreover, Draken easily took out over 20 members of Valhalla by himself in a fight, despite the fact that he has been hit with a metal pipe to begin the conflict.

The Name Mikey Is Enough To Scare The Opponents

Mikey is the leader of the popular gang known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. Mikey and his “Nuclear Kicks” are more than enough to win a fight, the “invincible Mikey,” title is given to him for a reason.

Furthermore, there has yet to be a character in Tokyo Revengers who is even able to reach the strength of this menace on a battlefield, let alone a character who can give him a challenging and worthwhile fight.

Whether it’s Osanai, Kazutora, Kiyomasa, or any other character, every one of them went down after taking a single blow from the mighty Mikey. However, there were few who could withstand the first strike, such as Shuji Hanma, who didn’t take long to realize that the gap between their strengths is quite huge.

The Invincible Mikey may have a hard time in other regards, but no one can and will ever be stupid enough to say that he wasn’t a legendary presence in combat.

This scene from Tokyo Revengers shows that Mikey certainly is the strongest character:

Is Draken as strong as Mikey?

Conclusion

  • All the characters of Tokyo Revengers are strong, but not more than Mikey. There hasn’t been a character that could last through the “Nuclear Kicks” of Mikey.
  • If we have to list characters by their strengths, Mikey would be on the top and Draken would be second on the list.
  • Every member of the Tokyo Manji Gang is strong and can endure fights against well-established boxers like Osanai.
  • While the durability of Pah is unmatched, Draken can take out 20 strong members of Valhalla.
  • Let’s not forget the main character, while Takemichi may not be strong enough to fight characters like Osanai or Mikey, he would never give up.
  • The resilient, determined, and strong-minded characters of Tokyo Revengers can show you that you don’t necessarily have to be physically strong to outshine the strongest characters, you only need a reason to withstand the punches of Osanai.
