Should I Watch Magi: Kingdom Of Magic? (In-Depth)

Magi: The Kingdom Of Magic is the second season of the magi franchise.

This is a typical shonen series with some of your favorite storybook characters like Aladin, Sinbad, and Ali Baba picked up from Arabic folklore.

These characters in the Anime have supernatural abilities and possess magic the help of which they start off their journey for their nation’s independence.

Kingdom of Magic had a better storyline than Labyrinth of Magic in my opinion since the first season was based on different arcs the separation arc, the ballad arc, or the Sindria arc.

These were mostly autonomous with little connection to each other. Characters and character development progressed from one to the next, yet there was a disconnect altogether.

Morgiana, Alibaba, Jafar, Konen and the others
These Anime characters have magic and otherworldly prowess, which they use to begin their journey toward the independence of their country.

Following that, the action in the previous season, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic picks up, and all of our important characters are fully formed.

We know their backstories and motives, so the story dives right in. Also, there are some pretty brutal actual and bloody fights that live up to the expectations of the shonen fans.

About the Magi Franchise

Here is a little review to let you know what makes this Anime a worthwhile series:

What is Magi: The Kingdom of Magic?

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic is a Japanese anime television series based on Shinobu Ohtaka’s manga titled the same. It is the sequel to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

It aired on MBS in Japan from October 6, 2013, to March 30, 2014. The opening theme song for the first part is “Anniversary” by SID, and the closing theme song is “Eden” by Aqua Timez, while the opening theme song for the second half is “Hikari” by ViViD, and the ending theme song is “With You/With Me” by 9nine.

From January 22 to November 26, 2014, Aniplex issued nine DVD and Blu-ray sets containing all twenty-five episodes.

Is Magi: The Kingdom of Magic worth watching?

Trailer of Magi: the kingdom of magic

Yes—if you are into Anime with dungeons and dragons you will probably love this magic-filled Anime. This Anime has all your childhood characters, ancient tales, and myths wrapped together in a story that gets deep with time.

Magi tells the adventure of Alibaba, who embarks on an epic journey to conquer one of his world’s numerous dungeons and become a great and revered magician.

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic is way more enthralling than the Labyrinth of Magic since it covers the political and social drama more thoroughly.

There is also a spin-off series named Sindbad’s adventures that is even more interesting than the actual series.

The Kingdom of Magic begins as a lighthearted show but ultimately becomes darker. However, this season became darker than Labyrinth of Magic, and I was astonished by how dark it became.

We learn about a corrupt government, the desire to be human, what the concept of humanity actually means, and many other topics.

Kingdom of Magic might seem to have the same type of narrative as the first season, but surprisingly this season took itself very seriously and the narrative shows a lot of character-building.

Is Magi a good anime?

Treasure Hunts

The characters in Magi get their powers and upgrade them by treasure hunting in Magical Castles with dungeons.

Dungeons are filled with hordes of treasure guarded by a Djinn. When a treasure hunter gains the Djinn’s devotion, they are given a powerful magical artifact.

Because each dungeon and Djinn is unique, the tale is always filled with fresh and strange monsters and powers.

The Djinn Equip!

This show also introduced the concept of Djinn Equip, which allowed characters with Metal Vessels to undergo a magical girl-type transformation where their hair, clothes, and weapons were upgraded for a limited time.

The way the characters were essentially supercharged to fight in large-scale fights, which actually had a purpose in the plot rather than merely being there to display huge battle sequences, I thought was wonderful.

The Story Gets Darker

Magi is more mature than the typical high-profile shonen Anime. The Anime isn’t afraid to delve into some of the more frightening aspects of its environment.

Morgiana, one of the major protagonists, was abducted as a child and sold into slavery. Alibaba, another key character, was born into poverty and saw his mother’s sickness.

Even while the series addresses the terrible realities of the world, nothing feels pushed for the shock aspect in any of the occurrences.

Animation And Sound Effects

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic characters
Excellent animation, humorous features, a compelling story, and a well-developed power system are all present in the Anime.

The animation is excellent and depicts a lovely world with intricate markets, castles, and wind-tossed dunes. The Anime is a tremendous treat because of its charming and appealing characters.

Another captivating aspect of the Magi is its eclectic and eurythmic music. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is a must-watch since it combines all these appealing qualities with a captivating narrative.

The Anime feature excellent animation, comical elements, a strong narrative, and a well-executed power structure, and even focuses on issues like oppression, slavery, corruption, and the economy. not to mention the characters are really charming and badass

One of my favorite aspects of the anime is that it begins with a scene from one of the last episodes that are utterly out of context.

It encourages you to create an assumption about where the characters would go, but as you get to that scene in sequence, you find you were completely incorrect.

That was a good choice of location because I was wondering what would come out of that perplexing sequence for almost the whole episode.

Do I watch Magi or Sinbad first?

Alibaba Saluja from Magi franchise
Sinbad leaves Parthevia to begin his own trip to alter the course of history, but not before stopping by his mother’s hospital bed for one more visit.

The first two seasons of Magi had a prologue called Adventures of Sinbad. Since Labyrinth of Magic and Kingdom of Magic should be seen before Sinbad’s adventure, I would advise against them.

The plot, which is set a few years before the second season debuts, is based on the Sinbad of the Seven Seasons tale.

Therefore, seeing it will help you comprehend the type of world that the Magi is. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, which includes some amazing combat sequences, comes next.

The first two seasons of the Magi series are undoubtedly enjoyable if you’re a fan. Additionally, Magi: Sinbad no Bouken will help you comprehend the workings of the Magi world setting.

  • Magi: Adventures of Sinbad
  • Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
  • Magi: Kingdon of Magic

Is Magi: Adventure of Sinbad worth watching?

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad only has thirteen episodes, so it doesn’t really convey the whole narrative, but it is still fun to watch.

Young Sinbad is a likable character, and it’s entertaining to follow his escapades, which range from his fierce geyser-surfing in a dungeon to his unique approach to economic diplomacy.

What age is Magi for?

The Anime as a whole is pretty brutal. Just not for little children.

Magi is rated PG 13, a Dark tale with lots of blood and violence. Early on, a magical girl figure has her head bit off. In truth, the adorable tiny extraterrestrial cat-like creature is quite malevolent.

Why did the Magi anime come to an end?

Due to low ratings, the Magi anime was cancelled after its first season. While the show was not widely successful, there are many fans who would like to see another season.

There are a few things you may do if you are one of these supporters and want to campaign for a second season. To begin, share your enthusiasm for the performance on social media and encourage others to do the same. Second, send messages to the producers and studios expressing your desire for a second season. Finally, to show your support, make a donation to a charity that assists the anime industry.

There is always the possibility that the program will be restored as long as there is interest in it.

  • Due to low ratings, the Magi anime was prematurely cancelled after its first season.
  • Several fans believe it could have done well if the sitcom had been given another season to develop its audience.
  • Some argue that the show was not good enough and did not live up to its fans’ expectations.

Conclusion

  • Magi: The Kingdom of Magic is a fantasy shonen Anime with a list of characters inspired by Arabian nights folktales.
  • It is based on an old Arabian novel, the same one that Disney used as inspiration for Aladdin, and has a feel of the old middle east.
  • It moves a little slowly at first, but it is definitely worth sticking with.
  • I adored Morgiana and Sinbad throughout the entire series, and if a third season were to be released, I would surely watch it.
