What you should know about Naruto: the Anime series.

What is Naruto?

Masashi Kishimoto wrote and sketched the Japanese manga series Naruto.

It chronicles the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a teenage ninja who wants acclaim from his classmates and aspires to become the Hokage, or village leader. The story is divided into two sections, the first taking place during Naruto’s pre-teen years and the second throughout his adolescence.

The series is based on Kishimoto’s two one-shot manga: Karakuri (1995), which garnered Kishimoto an honorable mention in Shueisha’s monthly Hop Step Award the following year, and Naruto (1997).

From 1999 to 2014, Naruto was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and published in tankbon (book) form in 72 volumes.

The manga was turned into an anime television series created by Pierrot and Aniplex that aired 220 episodes in Japan from 2002 to 2007; the series’ English adaptation ran on Cartoon Network and YTV from 2005 to 2009. Naruto: Shippuden, a successor to the original series, started in Japan in 2007 and ran for 500 episodes before ending in 2017.

Is Naruto a Ninja?

Naruto Uzumaki is a young ninja who wishes to be recognized by his peers and aspires to become the Hokage, or village leader.

A powerful fox known as the Nine-Tails attacks Konoha, the secret leaf village in the Land of Fire, one of the Ninja World’s Five Great Shinobi Nations. In reaction, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, locks the fox inside the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, turning Naruto into a host of the beast; this costs Naruto’s father his life, and the Third Hokage retrieves from retirement to become the leader of Konoha once more.

Naruto is frequently mocked by Konoha’s residents for hosting the Nine-Tails. Because of an order issued by the Third Hokage prohibiting any mention of these occurrences.

So join me as I list down the Top 10 most disliked characters in Naruto.

10) Karin

Karin was another shinobi that was enamored with cool and hot Sasuke. Fans rolled their eyes as she followed him around and hurled herself at him, quite desperately might I add. Karin was of little service to the squad.

Her only talent was healing, but her teammates had to bite her body to heal up, weird I know, It didn’t help how she made every bite Sasuke took in order to heal himself very sexual and uncomfortable.

In addition to her vexing obsession with Sasuke, she was just a bland and useless character with no goals or personality other than being a Sasuke fangirl.

9) Konohamaru

Child Konohamaru can be summed up in 2 words—loudmouthed brat, and because he was the Hokage’s grandson, he was also very entitled.

He frequently boasted about his skills as a shinobi, yet failed to produce results when required, though his personality changed for the better after accepting Naruto as a rival.

Fans continued to despise Konohamaru even after he reached maturity and became a Jonin. His jutsu was too similar to Naruto’s, and his methods were tedious.

Moreover, as the grandchild of the 3rd Hokage, Fans expected him to be very strong and skilled, yet to our dismay, he was still weak.

He was frequently regarded as one of Naruto’s most despised characters. Although he’s a lot more tolerable in Boruto.

8) Hiashi Hyuga

Since Hiashi was Neji's uncle, he had the responsibility of serving as a loving father figure for Neji.
Since Hiashi was Neji’s uncle, he had the responsibility of serving as a loving father figure for Neji.

Hiashi Hyuga is a Konohagakure shinobi and the current chief of the Hyuga clan. He’s quite hated.

As Hiashi was Neji’s uncle, it was up to him to act as a caring fatherly figure as Neji’s father (Branch Family) had sacrificed himself for the clan.

Hiashi was responsible for tattooing the family’s cursed seal on Neji’s forehead, severely damaging the already volatile relationship Neji had with Hiashi.

Hiashi used the cursed seal of the family on Neji several times, taunting and abusing the child prodigy, whenever Neji tried to prove himself as a potential candidate for the clan Head. Hiashi activated the seal in order to remind Neji of his place as a member of the branch family.

Not only was Hiashi nasty to Neji, but he had also groomed Hinata to be the Hyuga clan’s heir. Hinata’s lack of confidence and skills, on the other hand, caused him to conclude she was unworthy. Disowning her and removing her as the next of kin.

7) Rasa

On the topic of bad fathers, let’s move on to the former Kazekage, i.e Gaaras’s Dad. If you think he can’t possibly be a worse father than Hiashi, you’re wrong here’s why.

He attempted to lock a beast into an unborn child, then appeared astonished when the mother dies before childbirth and the youngster is unable to control his terrifying powers.

Rasa used his wife and children as test subjects, then attempted to solve the situation he created by sending assassins for his own son. Yeah, It’s no surprise Gaara is unhappy.

Rasa, being a coward, refused to cope with the disaster he had caused. Instead, he dispatched assassins to eliminate his OWN CHILD, Multiple times in fact. He’s not exactly the supportive fatherly figure you’d want.

6) Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchicha
Sasuke was rude to everyone, disdainful of his friends, and unwilling to heed anyone’s counsel.

Ah yesemo boy is also on this list.

Masashi Kishimoto designed Sasuke Uchiha to be the series’ “cool guy.” He had a dark history, a moody attitude, and a single-minded desire for vengeance. Too much of that attitude, though, made the character feel one-dimensional, if not repetitive. Sure it was cool at first, but it got old quickly.

Sasuke was impolite to everyone, unappreciative of his friends, and reluctant to listen to anyone’s advice.

That’s just scratching the ice, Sasuke Uchiha’s worst actions were done when he was a teen, forsaking his support systems and attempting to destroy the Hidden Leaf, as well as intending to kill his only friends. All for the sake of revenge.

Although now, he’s a really cool character, whos trying his best to retribute and atone for his sins, so let’s give him some slack.

5) Hiruzen Sarutobi

Hiruzen Sarutobi appeared to be a well-liked and respected shinobi who had the best interests of the community at heart.

Characters and fans alike were grieved when he died. Fans learned Hiruzen’s dark truths later on in the series. He had simply made too many wrong decisions.

Hiruzen was found to have played a significant role in the Uchiha clan’s slaughter, by supporting the Itachi’s decision and not restricting Danzo.

He also let Orochimaru live and experiment for much too long, all because of their past as students and teachers, these personal feelings, later on, caused his death when Orochimaru attacked.

Not only that, but he did not adequately care for Sasuke other than for his essential needs. The same is true for Naruto, leaving the child to fend for his own, and not even bothering to check up, despite his promises to Minato and Kushina.

Fans despised him after learning about his transactions and deemed Hiruzen Sarutobi to be the worst Hokage.

Sakura is infamous for her reputation as the most useless female lead character in Anime.

She was destined for greatness and had the talent to achieve it, yet only cried out to Naruto to fix her issues.

Not only that but like Karin, she was a desperate clingy, and annoying Sasuke fangirl, She even made fun of Naruto for being orphan thinking that was going to amuse Sasuke (who himself is an orphan).

She made Naruto promise to bring Sasuke back to the village, further burdening Naruto, and when she decided to take matters into her own hands, she almost got killed by Sasuke.

3) Orochimaru

Orochimaru was one of the series’ most terrible villains, since he kidnapped children, experimented on them, and slaughtered them to fuel his Jutsu.

His horrific rebirth Jutsu, along with his disrespect for life, turned him into a genuine evil. He was continuously escaping or surviving problems, which enraged many people who wanted to see him pay for his sins. It didn’t help with the fact that he killed his own teacher ie the 3rd Hokage.

Oh and he was also the main reason for Sasuke’s defection from the leaf, and his increased lust for revenge.

2) The Elders

What with stubborn old people being unlikeable, both in Anime and in real life? Enter, what is probably the most unlikable duo in Naruto.

Koharu and Mitokado were classmates of Danzo and Hiruzen. Ain’t it strange how all of them are on this list?

These seniors were the ones in charge of Konoha behind the scenes. The fact that they handled Naruto poorly as village advisers earn them a spot on the list.

Now, let me preface by saying their fears for the community and Naruto’s survival were justified, but the method they chose to address them was not well executed.

Not only that, but they just saw Naruto as a carrier for the tailed beast and nothing more.

Another event that puts them on the list is when they summoned Danzo to help with Konoha’s issues, knowing fully what Danzo had committed, additionally they supported Danzo which is why there’re 2nd to none but him.

1) Danzō Shimura

Sasuke vs Danzo

It shouldn’t come off as a surprise to see Danzo on this list, put simply, Danzo Shimura was the pinnacle of selfishness.

Danzo attempted to depose the Hokage and take over the Hidden Leaf village by force. He believed that his concept for the village’s safety was the sole “correct” method, and he despised the Senju philosophy’s influence on the Hokage role.

He also planned the Uchiha slaughter and took their Sharingan to transplant in himself. Fans adored him because he has no redeeming characteristics; he was unadulterated evil and greedy.

Danzo’s most heinous actions include forcing children to join root, brainwashing them to become soulless warriors, and assisting Orochimaru in his human experiments.

Unlike most other characters in this list, who completely reformed themselves and gave their best to atone for their sins, Danzo remained adamant that he was in the right, even till his death. Which is why he’s rotten to the core.

Conclusion

  • The most selfish and unlikable character in Naruto is Danzo Shimura
  • Orochimaru is a mad scientist who is obsessed with experimenting on live human subjects
  • The 3rd hokage, Sarutobi, was partly responsible for the Uchicha Massacre
  • Characters like Sakura and Karin were clingy and plain annoying
