Is Dr. Stone a manga?

Dr. Stone, written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Boichi, premiered on March 6, 2017, in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump.

It was one of several narrative ideas Inagaki presented to his editor, who chose it because he had no idea how it would progress. Boichi was approached about the time Inagaki (an admirer of his art) finalized the storyboards for Chapter three.

The serialization of the series finished on March 7, 2022. Shueisha published its 232 individual chapters in twenty-six tankbon volumes between July 7, 2017, and July 4, 2022. On July 4, 2022, a new chapter was released.

Who is the protagonist of Dr. Stone?

Senku Ishigami (Ishigami Senk) is the primary character in Dr. Stone and is buddies with Taiju Oki and Yuzuriha Ogawa. “Ten Billion Percent” is one of his catchphrases.

He was de-petrified six months before Taiju and eventually produced the Revival Fluid with Taiju’s assistance. Senku wishes to reconstruct civilization and establish the Kingdom of Science in the Stone World.

Senku, the Grand Bout champion, currently holds the title of Village Chief in Ishigami Village, where he is generally recognized as a legend due to the late Byakuya’s involvement in the village’s foundation.

What is the Plot of Dr. Stone?

The plot is set in the future where the earth is struck by a wave that has turned humans into stones. After a passage of thousands of years, a 16-year-old boy, the protagonist of the story is revived out of this petrification. Senku Ishigami is a genius and a science freak!

Dr. Stone’s official Anime trailer with English subtitles.

Although he is well-versed in human history and world knowledge, the times have changed, and civilization has gone back to its old ways as a consequence of the effects of time. The world had reverted to prehistoric times.

There are no buildings or modern technology, and all humans have been petrified and turned into stones. Senku must find a way to restore civilization and humanity to their former glory.

Hence, the series follows his life as he builds a camp to find a cure for the terror-stricken humans’ revival and to uncover the cause of the apocalyptic event.

Information About Dr. Stone

Is Dr. Stone the best?

Yes, Dr. Stone has a witty yet philosophical storyline with a well-written Manga and a production studio known for their works like Detective Conan and D Grayman.

This series has won the Award for the 64th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shonen Category.

Senku-Dr. Stone
Dr. Stone is a science fiction anime about the rebirth of a planet.

Here are three main reasons why Dr. Stone is the best Anime:

Factual Science

Dr. Stone is a science fiction Anime about planet resurrection.

What’s fascinating about the series is that the science underlying Senku’s approach is based on facts. Senku needs a way to reverse the petrification since everyone on the planet has been turned to stone.

You’ll find many references to Factual science in the series. for example, Senku designs the Stone Formula in episode one to make Miracle Fluid by combining nitric acid and distilled alcohol. When he poured the fluid over a petrified person caused the stone to break, resurrecting the individual.

Miracle Fluid in Dr. Stone is basically Nital, which is a real-world metal etching solution.

Brain Power More Than Muscle Power

In contrast to the physical power displayed by the heroes of most Shonen Jump Anime like Bleach, Naruto, My Hero Academia, and One Piece, Senku, also known as Dr. Stone, adds a variation to the conventional action-packed formula by prioritizing brain power.

Senku isn’t entirely overpowering as a character since he lacks physical strength in comparison to his cerebral strength. Senku tries to carry a heavy pot of water in episode seven.

In short, Senku’s intelligence contributes to the show’s practicality. Senku can explain the science behind everything in a nutshell, yet he still has limitations on what he can and cannot achieve.

Top-Notch Voice Acting And Art Style

Dr. Stone takes place in 2038 before the planet is petrified, and by 5738, the globe has been overrun by vegetation. Moss has grown up the sides of the trees, and vines dangle from the branches.

In episode three, we encounter a slightly broken statue of the Great Buddha of Kamakura. At night, the warm brilliant hues fade and are replaced by chilly dark colors.

Plus the voice actors have done a great job in making these characters come to life. Yuusuke Kobayashi is Senku’s voice in Dr. Stone. He is famous for his roles in Re: Zero as Subaru, Fire Force as Arthur Boyle, and Wise Man’s Grandson as Shin.

Senku is, however, not the only character in the series who has a famous voice actor. Kohaku first appeared in Dr. Stone episode six and is voiced by Manami Numakura, who is well known for her roles as Brandish in Fairy Tail, Retoree in Show By Rock, and Tsubame in UzaMaid.

The visuals are filled with vibrant colors and lush foliage. And the voice actors have done a tremendous job in expressing each character.

Hence the References to Real-world science and an intelligent protagonist plus the beautiful visuals and powerful voice acting makes Dr. Stone the best Anime.

Is Dr. Stone a Popular Anime?

The summer of 2019 brought us a variety of Anime shows with strong storylines and characters such as Fire Force and Vinland Saga.

Yet, Dr. Stone has emerged as one of the year’s best-known shows.

Dr. Stone is the most popular title of the season, with a current score of 8.18/10 at writing, outperforming its competitors.

What kind of Anime is Dr. Stone?

Dr. Stone's Main Characters
One of the key characteristics of Isekai is that the show begins with an introduction party or gathering where all of the characters explain their roles.

Dr. Stone is an Isekai Anime in its truest sense. One of the key indicators of Isekai is that the show starts with an introduction party or a gathering where all the characters tell you about their roles.

The adaptation of one of Shonen Jump’s most popular Manga has a sci-fi adventure concept, but it suffers from the same expository flaws as every other alternate-world Anime.

The Isekai genre in Anime is one in which characters go from their own world to another. In the case of Dr. Stone, they go from Earth in the year 2038, 3,700 years after everyone has been turned to stone yet miraculously spared alive.

Dr. Stone’s Earth 5738 may not be an alternate universe, but with no human technology and no geography to speak of, it might just as well be the video game fantasy realms that make up most Isekai Anime.

In short Dr. stone is a distorted inspiration of an Isekai anime with no magic other than science.

Are there a lot of fighting scenes in Dr. Stone?

Dr. Stone stands out from typical Shonen Manga due to its lack of emphasis on combat and action.

Though there are occasional action scenes, the series’ main focus is on planet creation, or rather, rebuilding.

There are no battles, extensive tournament storylines, or training compilations in the series. Instead, it methodically describes its hero, Senku’s, scientific endeavors to revive mankind from its petrified state 3,000 years in the future.

Conclusion

  • Dr. Stone redefines the Shonen genre with a hero having high intellect.
  • The real-world references make it educational as well as entertaining.
  • The amazing art style and the voice acting pull the viewer and engage them into the plot.
  • Unlike Shonen Animes with muscular heroes or supernatural capabilities, Senku is what a typical science nerd would look like in an alternate universe.
