Is Attack on Titan Live Action Any Good?

One of the most well-known Anime series is Attack on Titan, but there are also two live-action films based on the series, both of which were directed by Shinji Higuchi, scored by Shiro Sagisu, and written by Yusuke Watanabe and Tomohiro Machiyama. They are based on the Attack on Titan Manga, which was created by Hajime Isayama.

People who have watched the Attack on Titan Anime series claim that Attack On The Titan Live Action moves aren’t as good as the series, which you can compare by looking the at ratings. While the Anime series rated a 9 on IMDb, the movies have 5.1 (part 1) and 4.7 (part 2) ratings.

In fact, some of the viewers have expressed their feelings towards Attack on Titan movies by saying that these movies shouldn’t be even called an adaptation because they aren’t even close to an adaptation. The viewers feel that everything including acting, CGI, audio, story, and visuals is simply bad.

Moreover, while in Attack on Titan, part 1, episodes 1 to 13 of the Anime are retold, which includes two story arcs: The Fall of Shiganshina arc and The Struggle for Trost arc, however, it doesn’t include the majority of the Humanity’s Comeback arc.

In Attack On The Titan part 2, episodes 14 to 25 of the anime are retold, which include three arcs: the Eve of the Counterattack arc, The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission arc, and the Assault on Stohess arc.

In addition, the movies and series may have similar arcs, but there’re many differences that most viewers didn’t seem to enjoy, keep on reading to find out those differences.

Is Attack on Titan Live Action good?

The modifications didn't appear to be well received by viewers.
The modifications from the AOT live-action didn’t appear to be well received by viewers.

Attack On The Titan Live Action is two movies, written by Yasuko Kobayashi and Hajime Isayama, and directed by Tetsurō Araki, While the first part was released in Japan on 1 August 2015, the second part was released on 19 September the same year.

Well, viewers didn’t get what they expected, they found the acting, CGI, and audio unsatisfactory. The CGI was so bad that viewers are forced to believe that these effects were done by Microsoft Paint.

As for the story, viewers didn’t seem to like the additions for instance when the Titans attacked in the modern day so humanity would have trucks and guns at their disposal, the idea of including this is just silly.

Besides that, the movie versions of Eren and Armin are incredibly forgettable characters as they have no depth or character growth. Miura on the other hand simply gives the worst performance of the entire movie which can sometimes become laughably bad.

In addition, I could easily make a massive list of things that were wrong, basically Attack On The Titan Live Action movies are a colossal disaster for the Attack On The Titan franchise.

Why is the Live-Action Attack On Titan so different?

The reason why Live-Action Attack On The Titan movies is so different is because of the entire cast of Japanese actors. Many characters were changed, and although every character retained their roles, most of these characters were removed due to their westernized appearances.

The CGI is so bad that the whole movie seems fake.

A number of small differences between Live-Action and Anime

Is Attack on Titan Live Action the same as Anime?

There are a number of different adaptations of Attack On The Titan, like the Anime and the live-action movies spilt into two parts. While the Anime version sky-rocketed and became quite popular out of all the Adaptions of Attack on Titan, the live-action movies didn’t receive the same admiration because of a bunch of reasons.

To those who have read the book and seen all the adaptations, these minor alterations may not seem like much, but they are actually significant.
To those who have read the book and seen all the adaptations, these minor alterations may not seem like much, but they are actually significant.

There’re many differences between the Live-Active and the Anime that were significant enough to not go unnoticed, which include:

  • The Baby Titan: In the Anime, Titans don’t possess reproductive organs, so how is it possible that there is a ‘baby’ Titan?
  • The scarf scene: Anyone who has read Manga and watched Anime knows, who is Mikasa Ackerman and knows the importance of the red scarf that she always wears around her neck and how she receives it. Nonetheless, in the live-action, the way she is given the red scarf is too cheesy and looked incredibly forced.
  • When Armin’s father gets eaten: It’s funny when Armin’s father was getting eaten, Eren and Mikasa didn’t seem to care. There was no sense of fear, worry, or even sympathy while seeing a Titan drag away their best friend’s father. In fact, there wasn’t even any effort or suggestion to make sure that Armin was fine and that he went to his family unharmed.

While these small differences may not be as big to normal people, they’re quite a big deal to people who have done their reading and watched all the adaptions.

What the creators have to understand is that you shouldn’t change the concept of a movie in order to create a unique piece, because in my opinion leaving Armin on his own after what he went through was just mean.

Attack on Titan Live-Action movies managed to enrage many AOT fans.

Are AOT Movies worth watching?

There are several Attack on Titan movies and all of them are quite amazing and had been admired by viewers. However, the AOT Live Action movies which are split into two parts aren’t as good as one would have hoped they would be.

Nevertheless, I would recommend you to watch live-action movies at least once. You won’t be incredibly disappointed if you haven’t watched the other adaptation.

Moreover, if we talk about the rating, all the other adaptions including all the movies and anime series, Live Action movies have been given quite a low rating, however, that shouldn’t stop you from streaming the live-action movies, perhaps you’ll enjoy what most people didn’t.

Conclusion

  • Attack On The Titan is one of the most popular anime series, even the movies are admired, but not the Live-action movies that are split into two parts.
  • Attack On The Titan Live Action movies didn’t receive as much popularity as one would have thought, mainly because of their horrible CGI effects.
  • If you’re a fan of the Attack on the Titan franchise, I wouldn’t even recommend you to watch the live-action movies, however, there is a possibility that you might like them.
  • In addition, viewers didn’t like the fact that there have been several changes in the live-action movies that don’t make sense, like the baby titan.
  • I wouldn’t say that Live-Action movies are worth your time, however, you can watch them for the sake of the franchise.
