Though it does have certain limitations that may restrict its popularity, particularly among more older viewers, it remains an excellent first anime choice.

Even grownups could find joy in watching a good uplifting story.

Little Witch Academia began as a 26-minute short film and soon gained popularity both in Japan and beyond for its stunning animation, funny characters, and colorful storyline, eventually leading to the series fans know today.

Here’s how to watch this adorable tale of witches and magic.

What is Little Witch Academia?

Little Witch Academia is an animated short film released in 2013 by Studio Trigger for Anime Mirai. Y Yoshinari developed and directed the short film, which Masahiko Otsuka scripted.

The film was released in cinemas on March 2, 2013, and was afterward broadcast on YouTube with English subtitles on April 19, 2013. On October 9, 2015, a second short film named Little Witch Academia: The Magical Parade was released, which was partially funded through Kickstarter. In 2017, Netflix transmitted a television anime series, while Shueisha released two manga series.

Little Witch Academia is set in Luna Nova Magical School, a famous school for young girls aspiring to be witches. A girl named Atsuko “Akko” Kagari enrolls in Luna Nova Magical Academy to become a witch after being inspired by a witch named Shiny Chariot, but she suffers due to her non-magical background. All of this changes when she discovers the Shiny Rod, a powerful magical artifact left by Chariot.

What is the order of Little Witch Academia?

The Anime series Little Witch Academia follows a little girl named Shiny Chariot as she enters a witch university and grows into a formidable sorceress.

The series’ first season began in 2017 and continues to run until 2018. Fans of the show are eager to discover what occurs next in the series, which means they must watch it in chronological sequence to get the most out of it.

About Little Witch Academia movie.

The most beloved and recognized role model is the world-renowned witch Shiny Chariot. But as the girls get older, so do their impressions of her now, merely mentioning the chariot qualifies a witch as a kid.

Yet, unafraid of her idol, Atsuko Kagari enrolls at Luna Nova Magical Academy, wanting to one day be as mesmerizing as her idol.

The witch academy, however, isn’t all fun and games for Atsuko; boring lectures, rigid lecturers, and classmates who ridicule Chariot haunt the campus.

With her lack of magic ability, she is seen as little more than a rebellious student. But when the opportunity to impress her friends and professors comes, she seizes it.

With the girls striving to keep up with Akko’s ambitious scheme and everything from naughty guys to slumbering giants in their way, pulling it off will need not only all of their magical prowess but also a miracle.

About Little Witch Academia

Akko is accepted into the Luna Nova Witchcraft Academy. She may not be the best student, but her positive attitude is crucial to her and her friends’ success.

Should I watch the Little Witch Academia movie first?

Little witch academia series
The characterizations are consistent throughout both the film and the Anime.

As far as I can tell, the characterizations in both the movie and the Anime are constant. Akko’s ineptitude, as well as her classmates’ mockery of her Shiny Chariot obsession, are recurring themes in both versions.

You don’t have to because the events of the movies are not “canon” in the context of Anime.

For example, in the original film, Akko discovers the glowing rod, but in the Anime, she discovers it in an entirely different method and place.

You are allowed to skip the movies if you choose; they are absolutely unrelated to Anime.

Watching the movies first will introduce you to the characters in a general sense.

Watching the show will make you appreciate them more, rather than potentially hating how they were portrayed in the original works after you’ve grown to appreciate certain characters for reasons that were only developed after the movies were released.

Is Little Witch Academia an all-girls school?

Yes, the school in Little Witch Academia (The Luna Nova Magical Academy) is a female-only school that teaches young witches the art of magic

Initially, only witches from magical lineages were allowed, but owing to financial problems, it was decided to allow witches without magical ancestry to enter as well.

The students are separated into three teams and given the same room as well as a hatband and sash of the same color for their outfits. These groups will then collaborate in group lessons.

Because the usage of magic is now necessary for national credentials, Luna Nova provides a variety of specialized topics to obtain those qualifications, and after graduation, it offers a variety of jobs that can require magic.

Is Little Witch Academia worth watching?

Little Witch Academia Character
It is the best choice for an introductory Anime.

Fans who root for underdogs will like Akko’s story. She’s eager and hardworking, but that’s not always enough to keep up with her magically superior peers.

What she does have is a firm conviction in herself and a role model who encourages her to aim for the stars. And, with the help of her best pals Lotte and Sucy, Akko gradually discovers her inner witch.

Little Witch Academia, with its tale set in a boarding school, has its fair amount of tween drama, especially when Akko’s snobby classmate Diana gets involved.

However, there are some good representations of friendship, dreams, and the constant theme that believing in oneself is the most powerful strength of all.

Where to watch the Little Witch Academia series?

Due to the success of the first two films, a 25-episode series named Little Witch Academia debuted in 2017. (TV).

This version serves as a relaunch, exploring its characters in new ways and showcasing a longer-running storyline. Although neither film is available for streaming, the 25-episode Anime is available on Netflix.

Where to read the Little Witch Academia Manga?

There are two Manga series in the Little Witch Academia franchise. Yoh Yoshinari wrote one, which ran from January 2017 to September 2018, totaling three volumes.

It is available to read online at Bookwalker, and hard copies can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and other local shops.

Yuka Fujiwara wrote the second Manga, Little Witch Academia, Midnight Crown, which serves as a one-volume spin-off to the original plot. Unfortunately, it is hard to come by and is currently unavailable outside of Japan.

What are the keys?

The Magic Keys are seven unique keys featured in the video game Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time. Each of them grants entry to their separate dungeons, which are linked to the Horologium Chamber through the Sealed Door.

The magic keys are special keys that may be used to enter the Ruins of Canopus, Mimosa Forest, Mountain Ankaa, Regulus Mine, Shaula Desert, Gienah Tundra, and Labyrinth of Pollux by putting them into the keyhole of the Chamber’s Locked Door.

The reason for this is that the Ley Lines connecting the Door and the dungeons are unreachable by regular methods; the dungeons themselves are, in reality, the exact locations they appear to be named after, but in a different time period, especially the Golden Era of Magic. Each key includes seven lesser variations that provide entry to different parts of the main key’s dungeon, each more hazardous than the last.
