Character Analysis Of Shinra (Explained)

Fire Force, is a dark fantasy Manga series known for its brutality and beefy sound effects in the adapted Anime. It’s one of the most popular dark action animated series to date and has many fans worldwide fawning over it.

Shinra is its main protagonist who has the ability of ignition, leading him to perform various superhuman feats that make us wonder how strong he truly is.

Join me as I break down the simple yet strong character of Shinra Kusakabe.

Who is Shinra?

Shinra Kusakabe is a former Third and Fourth Generation pyrokinetic in the service of Special Fire Force Company 8 and is the main protagonist of the hit Manga series Fire Force.

Shinra joined the Special Fire Force to realize his ambition of being a hero, saving others from Spontaneous Human Combustion, and learning the truth behind his family’s demise twelve years ago.

Appearance

Shinra is an average-height adolescent with a slender muscular physique, short and spiky black hair, crimson eyes, and notably keen fangs.

His pupils are white rather than black, which makes his eyes stand out.

Shinra was debuted wearing a dark jacket with a button on his collar formed like a cross-like emblem over a light shirt, dark trousers, and a belt. He also wore dark shoes, which he repeatedly burned with his ignition ability.

Personality

Shinra is brave, intelligent, self-assured, and eager to assist others. At 5 years of age, he made a promise of becoming a hero to his mother which now he is proud to fulfill.

He doesn’t hesitate to act when the circumstances demand. While he can be impulsive in a fight, he has also demonstrated the ability to take a step back and consider the situation before responding.

Showing that he is normally level-headed and clever, yet Hinawa claims that his ignition ability causes him to be overconfident.

Shinra suffers from nervous laughing, a syndrome in which animals automatically grin or expose their teeth when frightened, stressed, offended, or uncomfortable. After seeing his mother die, he developed this illness.

Others misinterpret his grin for a sinister smirk, and because people believed Shinra murdered his mother, he earned the moniker Devil, although he fights to be recognized as a hero.

How powerful is Shinra in the Manga?

Although Shinra mostly uses his ignition ability in battle, he is also adept in close combat.

Shinra is a powerful Fire Force character. He, being a newbie to the Special Fire Force has already fought a Captain.

Shinra has tremendous durability, endurance, and recovery time, able to recover from terrible beatings and superhuman blows from Charon and Leonard Burns while continuing to battle and enduring heat that would kill normal humans. His robust body can deflect flames and endure damage.

Shinra relies largely on his ignition ability in combat, but he’s also skilled in ordinary fighting, able to pin an opponent to the ground and break their guard with a strong kick. Shinra’s hobby is break dancing, which he exploits to create surprising attacks.

Shinra got the best physical performance at the Special Fire Force Training Academy.

Durability

Shinra is superdurable.

Despite considerable blood loss, internal bleeding, stab wounds, and blunt force damage from His brother’s attacks, he fought with astonishing efficiency.

Despite Charon’s capacity to absorb and change kinetic energy into heat energy, he maintained his tenacity and durability.

Offensive capability

Shinra was able to light, control, and use flames from his feet as a toddler. He leaves Devil’s Footprints (Akuma no Ashiato) when he does so. As a third generation, he has exhibited resilience to external flames.

Shinra may cut a limb or destroy an Infernal’s core with his abilities and combat style.

His kicks can produce an explosion to lift a car into the air. With his ignited feet, he can modify the trajectory of his kicks mid-air, allowing him to repeatedly kick. Kind of like Bakugo from MHA, he’s using his feet to redirect.

Agility

If he scrunches his toes, he’ll lose control.

Shinra’s ignition ability allows him to unleash fire jets from his feet to fly through the air, glide across the floor, and jump continuously from platforms to outmaneuver an opponent.

Speed

Shinra’s igniting ability makes him the fastest character in Fire Force. He can fly faster than a jet plane, shatter the sound barrier with his kicks, and generate massive force to boost his (then) subpar strength.

His agility increases, allowing him to outmaneuver even the most powerful adversaries.

After training with Benimaru Shinmon, he learned to regulate his life force with Rapid, which increases his speed while diminishing his power.

The speed boost he gains allows him to easily fly through Nataku’s laser onslaught, rapidly overwhelm weaker pyrokinetic, a battle on par with and momentarily overcome a Level 2 Leonard Burns, and eventually travel long distances in seconds.

Rage or Hysterical strength

Shinra’s rage can improve his speed and power, depending on the situation and how angry he is.

When angry at Leonard Burns for aligning with the White Clad, he reached light speed without his Fourth Generation talents. Shinra manages to briefly exceed Haumea’s near-invincible skills during their final battle.

Shinra can utilize Hysterical Strength to use 100% of his ignition ability, up from 30%. That’s a very considerable boost in power and speed.

Adolla Grace

Shinra can momentarily get Adolla Grace through an Adolla Link to an Adollan or a graced person.

Desire strengthens his bond with Adolla Burst.

Shinra may enter light speed under Grace, splitting his body into subatomic particles. The particles then surpass the speed of light, allowing them to journey back till Shinra’s body reappears.

So he can travel at relativistic speeds without dying. Shinra could enter Sh’s Severed Universe, see Tempe’s past, and destroy the Demon Infernal in under 1 second.

His most impressive feat (IMO)

Shinra with Adolla Grace traveled from the surface of Japan to the moon, kicking it with such force that the moon realigned its orbit, leading to Faerie’s control over its gravitational field breaking.

To put that into perspective the distance between the Earth and Moon at that moment, was about 2.5 miles, the force required to move the Moon at this stage (which was amplified by Faeries Gravitational force) would have been nigh impossible.

The only way to move the moon away from the earth is to continuously apply 16 million Newtons of force for 67 years straight.

By measuring the mass of the moon; 18 sextillion tons, and the force required over that short duration, we can estimate that the amount of force Shinra is expending is above 10 trillion megatons of TNT.

Which is approximately 9,999,999,999,950 megatons greater than the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated, i.e the Tsar Bomba. Bear in mind that this was all achieved without the speed of light, which grants the user infinite force generation.

How powerful is Shinra?

Personality of Shinra

Shinra is brave, intelligent, self-assured, and eager to assist others. He is quite proud of his dream to become a hero, which he promised his mother when he was five years old.

He doesn’t hesitate to act when the circumstance demands it, and while he can be impulsive in the fight, he has also demonstrated the ability to take a step back and consider the situation before responding. This shows that he is normally level-headed and clever, yet Hinawa claims that his igniting ability causes him to be overconfident.

Shinra suffers from nervous laughing, a syndrome in which animals automatically grin or expose their teeth when frightened, stressed, offended, or uncomfortable.

Is Shinra the devil?

Many people have referred to Shinra as a monster due to his smile.

Shinra’s reluctance to give up and loyalty to his family and friends make him one of the Fire Force’s best fighters. Despite saving the populace from a titanic inferno, he was still regarded as a Devil, not a hero.

Shinra’s smile has led many to refer to him as a monster, especially given his origins and how he obtained his powers, as many feel he was responsible for his mother’s death. As a result, Shinra is working extra hard to save people and prove that he is not the devil that people assume he is.

His ambition to help people and be a hero dates back to when he was a youngster. He would beg his mother to dress him up to look like the television superheroes, which is why he wants to be a member of the Fire Company, where he can save as many people as possible.

So he is far from the demon people believe he is, though you can’t blame them given his horrific grin and demon-like abilities of combustion and fire discharge.

Who possessed Shinra?

Shinra was under Amaterasus possession.

When Shinra meets Sichir Hague, the woman interacts with him via the Adolla Link and tells him to kill Company 4’s captain and let the hatred he once focused on the Demon explode before snapping back to reality.

She used him by exploiting his hate of others labeling him as a Devil, his rage at the Demon who murdered his family, and his perplexed emotions regarding the Infernal’s true identity.

Amaterasu tried to encourage Shinra into burning and killing everything and everyone in their way while she was controlling him.

Is Shinra really that good for a protagonist?

The core plot of the Fire Force series revolves around the White-pursuit Clad’s for the Adolla Bursts. Shinra’s possession of one makes him a credible target for the cultists and an organic source of tension throughout the plot.

Though Arthur may defend himself as the main character, it makes more sense that a story centered on gathering the Pillars would feature one as the protagonist. Success is critical for each of Shinra’s missions because of the consequences.
